I’m now a blue belt.

I got a gold at the Ground Impact Amateur Grappling games. Won two fights, first was an absolute war (it felt like it, anyway) and I won on points. Second was a very lucky choke, which the boys at the gym have since nicknamed the Matt Choke.

Videos below.

  1. Congratulations on the promotion!!

That first fight was intense! He had a good guard game, but once you passed, the match was all yours. Not too sure, did he get your arm at his firm armbar attempt? Looks like he wasn’t able to straighten your arm out as he only caught your elbow.

And the Matt Choke, what is it? Couldn’t tell what was going on, his tapping was a surprise

  2. It’s just the cheekiest, crappiest lapel choke ever. Put my arm around his head, felt that his gi was loose, and just grabbed and pulled. He was kicking himself after for not noticing what I was doing!

  3. Congratulations!

  4. Thanks for dropping by monkeyman!

  5. The first match was great. I love seeing matches not of the “superfat” weightclasses. The other guy had a very good guard game. I’m going to credit you a little luck for not getting swept at least 3 or 4 times there. But of course, good job not getting caught as well. He had nothing when you passed though. Very nice work. You would have had that armbar so the victory was definately yours.

    Grats on the blue 🙂

  6. Yeah, a little luck, and a little wing chun relaxation. Particularly on the scissors sweep attempt. That was on purpose, yo! The other guys guard game was strong indeed, very frustrating. But he started to gas and he just wasn’t as tight, and then I just turned it on baby! I don’t know if you can see in the video but I shake my head at the ref when I’m armbarring him. It definitely crunched, and I really don’t want to be breaking any arms.

Still, was a hell of a satisfying day. Thanks for commenting!

  7. Congratulations on your recent grading.

Well I am glad you have moved on, although you should keep some of it alive for your writing! Best wishes with your upcoming article.
